411 MINERAL SPRINGS RD, MCHENRY IL. GARAGE EXPLOSION
August 4, 2018 at 5:10pm McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) was dispatched to the 400 block of Mineral Springs Dr in unincorporated McHenry for an explosion with a fire. MTFPD arrived to find a two story (2200 square foot) single family house with heavy smoke and fire coming from the 2 car garage. The occupants had already exited the residence. 2 hose lines were deployed and the fire was extinguished in approximately 20 minutes. Crews were able to keep the fire from communicating to the interior of the residence. The house is still habitable but the garage is a total loss. A damage estimate is not yet available. An occupant from inside the residence suffered an abrasion to his leg. He was evaluated by MTFPD medics but declined transport to the hospital. There were no other injuries. The location of this fire was in an area without fire hydrants. The streets are only wide enough to fit one vehicle down it at a time and on a dead end street. MTFPD received assistance from the following fire departments to cover our stations and bring additional water to the fire. Woodstock, Algonquin, Fox River Grove, Lake Villa, Wauconda and Nunda. The cause of the explosion and fire is not known at this time but is being investigated by the MTFPD fire investigations unit and the McHenry County Sheriffs Police.
