5014 Hickory Way in Johnsburg IL structure fire

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) was dispatched on 1/19/2019 at 11:47 AM to 5014 Hickory Way in Johnsburg IL for a structure fire. Emergency response units arrived on the scene within 5 minutes and found a ranch house with smoke coming from the attached garage. Crews aggressively attacked the fire and had it under control within 15 minutes. Seven pieces of MTFPD apparatus responded to the scene consisting of 25 firefighters. In addition, Spring Grove Fire responded to the scene, and Fox Lake Fire provided station coverage during the fire. The Johnsburg Police Department also responded to the scene. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. Fire damage was contained to the attached garage. The house and contents sustained smoke damage. The house was habitable and turned back over to the homeowner. The damage is estimated at $25,000. The cause of the fire is accidental in nature and caused by hot coals from a fireplace being placed in a garbage can in the garage.
